Mustard Seed Generation은 한국계 미국인 제 2회 전국 최초 한국계 미국인 정신건강 전문가 서밋을 개최합니다. 서밋의 목표는 미국 전역의 한국계 정신건강 단체와 전문가분들이 함께 힘을 모으는 것입니다.

2021년은 2020년도에 이어 의료, 재정, 사회, 인종 등의 위기로 많은 사람이 정신건강의 어려움을 호소했습니다. 그 바탕에, 한국계 미국인 정신건강 전문가분들은 COVID-19로 인한 사별, 아시아인에 대한 조롱을 경험합니다. 그들은 격리와 휴교 기간 가정 폭력과 아동 학대의 비율이 증가하는 상황에 한탄하면서도, 우울증과 불안감을 겪는 남녀노소의 부담을 해소하도록 노력합니다. 미국 내에  분열이 있지만, 한국계 미국인은  “영원한 외국인”으로 계속해서 보이지는 않아도 간과되는 경우가 있습니다.  이러한 이유로, 2021년도 한국계 미국인 정신건강 전문가 대상 전국 서밋은 가장 힘든 시기를 지나 한인 사회를 위해 봉사하고 일하는 분들에게 열린 공간입니다. 공유하는 문화적 정체성을  반영하여 다른 분들과 함께 성장할 귀한 기회이며 혼란과 갈등이 있는 이 시기에 함께 일어설 기회가 될 것입니다.

“There is hope and strength in shared cultural identity”

 Dateline: [National, September 25th at 9-11:30am PT | 11-1:30pm CT | 12-2:30pm ET] —Mustard Seed Generation will host an inaugural National Summit for Korean American Mental Health Professionals. The goal is to unify the efforts of Korean American mental health organizations and professionals across the United States through a historic, annual gathering because there is hope and strength in shared cultural identity.

 Opening remarks by: Congressman Andy Kim 

The year 2021 is rife with medical, financial, social, and racial crises, and it has challenged the mental health of many. On the grounds, Korean American mental health professionals experience derision against Asians while bereaving those who were lost to COVID-19. They lament the increase in rates of domestic violence and child abuse during quarantine and school closures while shouldering the burden as depression and anxiety debilitate young and old alike. The nation is divided, and as invisible “perpetual foreigners,” they are overlooked in the triangulation. For these reasons, the National Summit is an intentional space for those who serve the Korean American community and beyond through the toughest of times – a rare opportunity to grow with others who reflect facets of shared cultural identity and to stand together during divisive and tumultuous times.
